The CHAIN is not only an essential technical part of your motorcycle, it is also a safety feature. An incorrect installation or a non-adapted chain can cause significant mechanical damage or injuries. Therefore, we recommend you read these guidelines very carefully and only use AFAM chains.
Our chains come with adapted closing links depending on the application and power of your bike. Our links with ARS clips, which come with high-end chains, need a certain force be clipped on. This avoids chain breach or loss of clips and prevents premature wear of the clip.
Beware during assembly: the head of the clips must always be mounted in rotational position.
Prior to removing the old chain: check and change if necessary: chain-guide, wheel bearings and gear carrier. Also check the silent-blocks for wear.
The slightest friction of the chain, on a metal part of the case or the swing arm, can cause side plates to crack and break.
For a better life span of your AFAM chain a regular maintenance and lubrication, every 500 to 600 km is required.
To preserve chain life, avoid the use of lubes which are too sticky or look like white paste, which have nothing in common with greases used in OEM. These lubes have the tendency only to lubricate just a part of the chain. They form a protective film and do not lubricate the rubber seals that are of each side of the plates. These joints need a regular maintenance with an oil-based lubricant for better penetration and lubrication.
